SOME WANT HORSES ON STREET REINED IN AFTER SPATE OF SPOOKINGS
Bradley Hope - NY Sun - May 10, 2006
Please note the following important errors in this article:
1. Animal Advocacy groups formed the Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages -
not the Coalition for NYC Animals, which was incorporated in 1995 and is
actually one of five other organizations that make up this Coalition.
2. The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages has no intention of taking on
the police department as the article indicates. This is absurd, totally
inaccurate and is a misrepresentation of Edita Birnkrant’s words. We do not want
to mix issues - our focus is the carriage horse industry - hence the name of our
coalition.
3. The article states that the carriage horse industry hired a lobbyist to
defend them against proposed legislation such as Avella's bill. Not True! They
hired a lobbyist to go after the pedicab industry, even getting some NYC Council
Members to support a bill asking for its ban.
