Re 'Horseplay': It's sad and infuriating that, as bad as these horses have
it, other horses who have the misfortune of 'retiring' to full second lifetime
of service to man by becoming a New York City carriage horse have it even worse.
If this is the best we can do for our 'crème de la crème' of horses, we have
failed them miserably. We should be treating horses and all other sentient
creatures humanely.
In his moral basis for vegetarianism, Gandhi said "The greatness of a nation
and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
