CARRIAGE HORSES
Published in the NY DAILY NEWS, Letters to the Editor, January 7, 2006: Anyone with a heart knows that horse drawn carriages have no place in this city! The "romantic notion of a ride in a hansom cab, is one that other big cities have rejected because it is the right thing to do! They have been banned in London, Paris, Toronto! Horses and traffic, are a bad mix as evidenced by incident after incident, over the years, in which the poor horse and innocent people are inevitably the helpless victims. This unconscionable abuse of the noble horse, dragging overloaded carriages in the extremes of heat and cold, in traffic snarled streets, is promoted by an industry with a lobby in City Hall, that has the audacity to have gotten the support of City Council members Quinn, Gerson, Palma and Recchia, to promote legislation to limit pedicabs! Give me a break! Zelda Penzel Return to Letters
