In
"Hansom-Pedicab Turf War" (Sept. 30), we hear complaints from both
carriage drivers and pedicab drivers (with arguably more attention
given to the horse-carriage drivers). Distinctly missing was a voice
for the horses, so here it is: It's no fun being shackled, blinders
over the eyes, pulling heavy carriages, trudging on hard pavement, not
only through the park but through noisy, congested Midtown streets,
nose to tailpipe and then kept in cramped stalls. What do the horses
get out of the deal? Some stale oats and dirty water? It's cruelty to
the max. No more making money off their backs.
