CARRIAGE HORSES
By: Stacey Langley - Huron Daily Tribune, MI - August 28, 2007 Sherman Township - A group of nine people taking a horse drawn buggy ride Monday afternoon along Helena Road were injured after the horses were spooked by a passing semi-tractor and trailer. According to Deputy Ryan Swartz of the Huron County Sheriff's Office, the group was celebrating Patricia Nelson's 60th birthday with an afternoon buggy ride. The buggy, pulled by two horses, was controlled by owner Don Gentner as the group was westbound on Helena Road just east of Ruth Road around 3:25 p.m. A large tractor trailer went by the carriage reportedly spooking the horses, causing them to start running out of control. The carriage traveled into the yard at 7172 Helena Road where it struck a large apple tree. East Huron Ambulance arrived on the scene. Gerald Rehfeldt, Don Gentner, Hillary Susalla, Grace Susalla and Joan Gleason were all transported to Harbor Beach Community Hospital for medical treatment. Four others involved in the accident refused treatment at the scene and sought their own medical treatment for minor injuries. Swartz reports Gleason and Gentner were taken by FlightCare to a Saginaw hospital for further medical treatment of their injures. No other information was available. Return to Other Cities
