Testimony at Hearing of the Council on Consumer Affairs
March 12, 2010
NYC Council
Consumer Affairs Committee
New York, NY
I support Intro. 92, the bill to fully ban the horse-drawn carriage
industry and I ask for your committee to do the same. I have worked in
this city for many years and have seen and know of the long list of
carriage accidents and horse deaths on the New York streets. You
would thnk we would have banned this industry long ago.
Intro 92 is the only bill ever to address or care about what will happen
to the horses. It states that the horses will not be employed in another
horse-drawn carriage business or as a work horse and cared for
humanely for the remainder of the horse’s natural life.
A recent undercover report and video investigation by Animals’
Angels. Animals-angels.com of the NYC stables showed the horses
living in unsafe and inhumane living conditions. Horses tied to small
stalls with barely any room to lay down and rest. See Animals’ Angel’s
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-rHiK-hing
Please support and pass Intro. 92 and help end this outdated carriage
horse industry. It is always the right time to do the right thing for
animals and both people alike, please end the cruel treatment of the carriage horses.
